Asian Barbie Dolls

Wednesday, December 3, 2008

Okay, I'm not really a fan of Barbie.  I'm of the generation that remembers the hoopla that was raised when Barbie was caught saying, "Math is hard!"

But, I must admit that I'm impressed with the number of Asian countries represented by their Barbie dolls.  Take a look!  Pretty cool.

wow

I'm impressed. I wasn't a Barbie kid, more of a tom boy, but now I have a greater appreciation for the clothes.

I am also very impressed!  I

I am also very impressed!  I never thought Barbie would have these.  I love their dresses.

Barbie

I was a Barbie girl! And my daughter is just now talking about Barbie. I hate that I go into the store and do not see Asain dolls ready for purchase. I purchased a few dolls online from Chinasprout and they were not as nice as the dolls you feature.
I think that I will look into getting a couple that you mention. Love the doll from Korea.

Anyone else get upset that more of these dolls are not on the selves for purchase? Come on. Clearly they are in demand too. It really upsets me.

These are nice though. Thank you.

All the dolls are beautifully

All the dolls are beautifully costumed. They each have more clothes than the dolls sold in the US.

i like the chinese barbie

i like the japanese and chinese barbie!

Asian Barbies

My favorites are the Japanese and the Cambodian Barbies, they have beautiful costumes with so much attention to detail.  Yeah, Barbie's kind of an airhead, but she's beautiful nonetheless...I have a fansite stop by and check out some of the other Barbies out there http://barbiefest.com/

I Like Them All.

Hi. Just stumbled upon your cute site and it's really nice. I'm Asian too and appreciates anything that promotes Asia and being Asian. My country isn't represented by any of these Barbies, but I like them all. :)

They're all beautiful. The

They're all beautiful. The problem is that they're all collector dolls. My daughter is half-asian, and what I would love to see for her is an Asian Playline Barbie, one that's just a regular doll (a vet, a princess, a marine biologist, a cycling enthousiaste...whatever the other barbies are) who happens to be asian. Unfortunately, Mattel no longer makes these. It's a shame that for my daughter to have an asian barbie, I have to pay a premium, and buy one that is only available in a so-called national costume, and that doesn't reflect her own heritage at that, as she's half Filipina, and there's no Filipina Barbie as far as I know. Would love to see Mattel bring back the asian barbie to keep the hispanic, the black and the caucasian barbies company.

 There are Filipina Barbies

There are Filipina Barbies in different customes.  I happen to own several 1993 series with the different Maria Clara customes.  The dresses were hand sewn/ designed by Tesoro and are very beautiful.  They were  limited, only 1000 each were made.  If you want to see pictures, do google search on 1993 Filipina Barbies and perhaps someone is willing to sell.  I'm a collector and unfortunately will not sell.  Goodluck

Awe! These Barbies are so

Awe! These Barbies are so pretty! I loved Barbies growing up but the options were kind of limited. I was happy from the period 2000-2006 when more international Barbies came out, especially the Asian ones. My grandma would try to get me one each Christmas, even though I was too old for them at that point! However, Barbie is starting to crumble again, sadly... :'(

Thanks for sharing these dolls!

My faves are the Korea and Sumatra dolls! So pretty!

do you have a azerbaijan

do you have a azerbaijan doll????

The Thai, Sumatra, Japanese

The Thai, Sumatra, Japanese and the Chinese are great!!! My Daughter is half Vietnamese though so I would love to see a Barbie in the traditional Ao Dai!! :)

Oh Man

Wow, I didn't know Asian barbie dolls exist until I looked it up. Coming up, I always thought that Barbie dolls were either white, black or Hispanic (Teresa could be Italian). At least they were the only type of barbies they had here in America and because Matel is a Fortune 500 toy company, I thought they distributed the same type of barbies here in America to other countries.

Hi Jenine,

Yes, you can find these dolls on amazon, but they still aren't lining the shelves in the stores in America or elsewhere.
