Wild China

Friday, January 8, 2010

I recently got a chance to see some of the remarkable 6-part documentary nature series called "Wild China," made by the BBC and China Central Television.  It's very similar to "Planet Earth" in that it captures the beauty of nature in various remote habitats.  The amazing landscapes are simply breathtaking.

I saw "Program 1:  Heart of the Dragon."  I enjoyed learning about the people in Southern China who work in the hills of terraced rice paddies and the fishermen who train cormorants (birds) to catch their fish.  There is a community and a school that is completely housed inside a cave.  The bats, swifts (birds), fish, and monkeys who live in the caves are also fascinating.

The other programs in the series include:  "Shangri-La," "Tibet," "Beyond the Great Wall," "Land of the Panda," and "Tides of Change."  I can't wait to see the rest of this series.
