Rabbit Days and Dumplings
"Rabbit Days and Dumplings" is the debut album from Elena Moon Park, Korean-American band member of Dan Zanes and Friends. Asianmommy received a free copy of the album for review.
This album is for people of all ages and contains folk songs and children's songs from all over East Asia (China, Korea, Japan, Taiwan, and Tibet). These songs have been updated and arranged, some mixed with English, using traditional Asian instruments combined with western instruments to make a unique sound. Festival Five Records will release this new album on September 25, 2012.
My two favorite songs on this album are the Korean "Sol Nal" and the Cantonese "Tum Tum Chuen." I was also very happy to see that the Taiwanese folk song "Ti Oh Oh," which I've known since I was a little girl, was included on this album.
What I liked: I love how these traditional East Asian songs have been modernized and made so upbeat and fun. The rabbitdays.com website also lists wonderful information about the background of each song, as well as the lyrics and translation. I also love the artwork on the cover, created by artist Kristiana Parn.
What could be improved: I would love to see more albums like this.
