Book Review: Bringing In the New Year

Thursday, January 29, 2009

When we were at the library, I found this book called Bringing In the New Year by Grace Lin.  It shows a Chinese family preparing for Chinese New Year.

Jie-Jie sweeps out the old year, Ba-Ba hangs decorations, Ma-Ma makes dumplings, Mei-Mei gets a haircut, and the little girl puts on a new qi pao for the New Year feast.  There are firecrackers, lions, lanterns, and a dragon.  At the end of the book is a short summary of the customs and traditions associated with Chinese New Year.

What a delightful introduction to Chinese New Year for young kids!
