Book Review: I am a Ballerina
The book
I am a Ballerina, by Valerie Coulman, tells the story of a little girl who goes to see a ballet performance and then wants to become a ballerina. "I am a ballerina. Well, almost a ballerina." She begins to take lessons, practices all around the house, and then performs on stage in a recital. It's a great book for little kids who are interested in ballet. I like that her ballet class includes a little boy and also that her family is biracial (her mom is Asian and her dad is Caucasian).

Drina
This reminds me of a book series that I loved when I was in elementary school, called Drina.

it's cool that the story is about a biracial girl, but I hope that parents of a different ethnicity also pick up this book. Sometimes I notice that books with Asian characters are picked for Asian kids, and etc, you know?
My Asian Heritage
To Jojo's point...never really thought of that....but actually thinking about my habits...I tend to only look at/purchase books that are Asian-related. But now I realize that I need to mix it up...thanks for the reality check Jojo!
Say Hola to Spanish
We try to mix it up, too. Our favorite Spanish book is Say Hola to Spanish.

I think it's great that the class also includes a little boy but am not sure that I can get my boys to read this one. I will definitely keep it in mind when buying gifts for girls.
Book recommendation- thank you
Thank you so much for this recommendation. My daughter is so into ballet right now and it sounds perfect for our family.
