Great Spots for Kids in Atlanta Print E-mail
Parenting Corner

Our friend H2 is sharing with us some fun places to take the kids in Atlanta.

beluga whaleGeorgia Aquarium

The main attraction in Atlanta is the Georgia Aquarium, the largest aquarium in the country.  It contains the largest tank in the world.  There are whale sharks, beluga whales, California sea lions, sea otters, and penguins.  There's an interactive gallery with touch pools where you can touch the horseshoe crabs, sea stars, stingrays, and shrimp.  There's also a large kids' playground at the aquarium and Deepo's Undersea 3D Wondershow, a 3-D movie about a fish who takes the audience on an underwater adventure.

Imagine It!  The Children's Museum of Atlanta

Here, your child can operate a fork lift or fill a cart in the grocery store.  There's a Crawl Space for toddlers to roam.  There's also a waterplay area.  Your child can paint on the wall, build a sand sculpture, or dress up in a costume.  Check out the puppet shows, storytime, and puzzles.

pandaAtlanta Fulton County Zoo

The Atlanta Zoo is very nice.  You will find all kinds of animals, including a Giant panda exhibit.  Take a peek at the Panda Cam.  Also, check out the petting zoo with goats, pigs, and sheep.

FP Learning HomeSW & PW, who are new parents, highly recommend the Fisher-Price Learning Home.  Your child can ring the doorbell, check the mailbox, drop balls down the rain spout, open the door, listen to the radio, open the window, flip the light switch, sort shapes, spin numbers, and move dials on the clock.  There are 21 songs and lots of fun household sounds.  It's perfect for kids ages 6 months to 3 years.  to buy

Mulan: Special Edition Print E-mail
Asian Zone

MulanDid you know that you can watch Mulan in Mandarin Chinese?  The Mulan 2-Disc Special Edition DVD has English, Spanish, French, and Mandarin language tracks.  We watched it recently.  The last time I had seen it was in the movie theater a decade ago.  I had forgotten what a great story it is--it almost made me cry.

The Huns have invaded China, somehow crossing over the Great Wall.  Their fearsome leader, Shan-Yu, wants to take over China.

Meanwhile, Mulan's family is setting her up for a visit with the matchmaker to find a suitable match for her, to bring honor to her family.  Unfortunately, Mulan makes a mess of things.  Then, Mulan's disabled father is called upon to join the Imperial Army to fight the Hans, but Mulan secretly sneaks away and goes into battle to take his place.

Mulan (voiced by Ming-Na Wen) is accompanied by Cri-Kee the lucky cricket and Mushu the tiny dragon (voiced by Eddie Murphy), as she finds a way to bring honor to her family in a non-traditional way.

Great movie!  Although the Huns can be pretty scary for young kids. to buy
