An Evening at Ravinia

Monday, July 30, 2012

We went to Ravinia last night--had a great time at the all-Tchaikovsky concert by the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.  From 3:00-4:30 pm, they held Family Space on the north lawn, where there were music-related crafts, storytelling, and the "instrument petting zoo."  The kids tried all kinds of instruments.  They had some trouble playing some of the brass and wind instruments, but our older daughter liked the oboe and the younger one liked the trumpet.

We heard Symphony No. 4 in F Minor, Piano Concerto No. 1 in B-flat Minor, and then the magnificent "1812" Overture with real cannons--always a favorite!  So nice to sit outside on the lawn listening to beautiful music while enjoying a picnic dinner with friends.  Highly recommended!

Ravinia

We were just there this weekend as well!! (I just posted about our visit to see Laurie Berkner in concert.) But we saw this particular concert last year, and it was a-maz-ing! The live canons were grand! It was such a great concert, minus the heat (since we went on THE HOTTEST summer day last year). We enjoyed the instrument petting zoo and picnic dinner as well. Ravinia is SO awesome. We are lucky to live where we live. =)

Hi Sandra,

I agree--wish we could go there more often. I noticed Yo-Yo Ma & Itzhak Perlman will be there in Sept!

Ravinia

It would be grand to see either one of them. We will go if it works out in our schedule!
