GoldieBlox, a Building Toy Especially for Girls
Check out this new toy called
GoldieBlox, an engineering toy designed especially for girls. GoldieBlox is the invention of a woman engineer, Debbie Sterling, who's frustrated that only 11% of engineers are women. She wants to encourage young girls to be more than just a princess. She wants them to become engineers, too!
Debbie says that research shows that boys tend to have strong spatial skills and love construction toys, while girls tend to have better verbal skills and love reading, stories, and characters. GoldieBlox includes a construction set plus a storybook featuring Goldie, a girl who loves to build. Girls get the opportunity to build what Goldie builds. This toy combines reading plus building, encouraging young girls to develop their spatial skills and become more interested in engineering.
The target age range for GoldieBlox is 5-9 years, and it looks like it'll become available in February 2013. Can't wait!

That's awesome since I'm one of the 11% of female engineers and would love to see more :). But they should get a more clean-cut guy to be in their youtube promos ;)
