Great Spots in Philadelphia for Kids

Thursday, August 16, 2012

Our trip to Philadelphia included stops at Independence Hall, the Liberty Bell, and the National Constitution Center.

Independence Hall is where the Declaration of Independence and the United States Constitution were signed.

The Liberty Bell, with its famous crack, is a symbol of independence and freedom.  Wonder whose idea it was to x-ray the bell--you can clearly see the crack from the outside--Haha!

The National Constitution Center explains the history of the US Constitution and features historical exhibits, including the "Signers' Hall" with life-sized sculptures of the men who signed the Constitution.  The kids had fun pretending to add their signatures to the famous document.

Glad you loved it. Philly is my home! Did you know some crazy person hit the bell with a hammer and made the crack even longer/wider? That's why it's behind ropes/glass now.

Your post brings back lovely

Your post brings back lovely memories of my trip to Philly many years ago. I remember checking out the Liberty Bell too :)

Hi Mommy to Chumsy,

It was a good history lesson for the kids, too. We don't get much of that kind of exposure in Chicago.
